We are going to do things a little different this year, instead of releasing twelve books at once for the whole year we are going to release three books for each quarter. This will give us some more flexibility to choose books that are applicable to current events as they may arise. Here are my picks for the first quarter of 2023.
You’re It (Jan)
By Leonard J. Marcus | Eric J. McNulty | Joseph M. Henderson | Barry C. Dorn
In times of crisis or significant and unexpectant change the outcomes are determined by leadership. Emergency Managers are thrust to the forefront during these challenging times, and we’re looked to for leadership, its up to us to be prepared to LEAD through the hard times and that take skills and those skills need to stay sharp.
The Devil Never Sleeps (Feb)
By Juliette Kayyem
We are living in a time when disaster and crisis seem to a constant, with the frequency of these events should we ever be surprised when they happen? We must adapt to the times we’re in and learn to live in an age of disaster and Emergency Managers need to work even harder to lead their communities through them.
Darring Greatly (Mar)
By Brene Brown
Vulnerability can be a leader’s greatest strength if only they embrace it, but too many leaders see it as a weakness. We must be willing to be vulnerable and try new things, step out of our comfort zone, and embrace change. Our willingness to “fall down” in front of others daring greatly and for them to watch you to watch you get back up and your resilience to move forward can be incredibly powerful and motivating.
