Why “Anyone Can Do EM” Hurts Everyone

Why minimizing the profession of emergency management puts communities at greater risk.

I normally leave my social commentary for my other Substack. EMN is where I try to stay focused on emergency management. But every once in a while, something gets said that touches both worlds. Lately, I’ve been hearing a phrase that makes me stop and scratch my head a little: “Anyone can do emergency management.” And the more I hear it, the more I realize how much damage that little sentence can do.
