Support for Our Colleague, George Whitney
I wanted to share some difficult news about our colleague and friend, George Whitney. A few days ago, George was stung by a swarm of wasps and suffered a severe anaphylactic reaction that led to cardiac arrest. He reached a neighbor's house, who called 911 and performed CPR. Despite these quick actions, George sustained an anoxic brain injury, and his family has informed us that his chances of recovery are, unfortunately, very slim.
George has been a dedicated and influential figure in emergency management for many years. His career began with significant roles at FEMA, where he contributed to numerous critical disaster response and recovery efforts. Later, at California OES, George's leadership and expertise were instrumental in shaping state-wide emergency preparedness initiatives. In recent years, George transitioned to running his consulting firm, where he focused on empowering and mentoring emergency managers, helping them navigate the complexities of the field and excel in their roles.
George's commitment to public safety and his passion for the emergency management profession have left a lasting impact on countless individuals and communities. His knowledge, experience, and genuine care for those he worked with made him not just a colleague but a true mentor and friend to many.
A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to assist his family with medical expenses during this incredibly challenging time GoFundMe
Please keep George and his family in your thoughts as they navigate this difficult period.
