Rethinking Readiness

The Book of the Month

Rethinking readiness involves challenging traditional notions of preparedness and exploring new approaches to respond effectively to complex challenges. The term refers to a shift from the traditional emphasis on physical infrastructure and reactive measures towards a more holistic and proactive approach that considers various factors, such as social equity, community resilience, and systemic risk management. This approach recognizes that the challenges we face today, such as climate change, social inequality, and technological disruption, require a more integrated and adaptive response focused on building long-term capacity and addressing root causes rather than simply reacting to crises as they arise. By rethinking readiness, we can create more effective and sustainable systems better equipped to anticipate and respond to emerging challenges while building resilience and equity in our communities.
