Buddhism’s Three Poisons for Emergency Management
Credit to Dr. Helen Miller, CEM® for bringing these to my attention.
In Buddhism, there are several constructs, pathways, philosophies, etc., many of which are applicable to better Emergency Management. Sometimes viewing the various ways we do things, and the ‘why’ – can be a meaningful thought-exercise. And benefits of wellness and grace apply to emergency managers, too.
One aspect of Buddhism is a trilogy of good versus evil. Three positives (wholesome or positive attitudes) versus three poisons.

Our podcasts continue – by 9/15/24 we should have at least four episodes published, covering ESF#’s 1-4. You can find them – along with transcripts and links to more details, further information, etc. over at the CEMIR’s Substack. And these are all available for free subscribers, too.
Check out our CEMIR Blog at https://cemir.org/the-curator, which has been up and running since March of 2022. This month’s free issue includes a link to a new free e-book, info on the U.S. national heat strategy, the new release of the FEMA National Resilience Guidance, a DHS port security RFP, and new DHS statistical reports. We do this type of emergency management intelligence curation every month for our members.
Join Mike at a free webinar (sign-up with the SCIP required, but can be a free version) either 1pm or 8pm Eastern on September 16, 2024.
